About

Stash was built to solve a simple problem - the agony of logging in to different computers and/or browsers using different accounts (Google, Microsoft, iCloud, etc.) and sometimes with different operating systems (macOS, Windows, Ubuntu, etc.). Stash comes to the rescue, so you can have your favorite links with you wherever you go, without needing to lock you in a single account. It's like having a secret hiding spot for your favorite websites - you know, like that one time you hid your Halloween candy in the sock drawer. But don't worry, Stash is much more secure than that. Plus, you can add stuff to your stash fast, without having to decide what category or folder a link should go to. Because who has time for that? Stash: the solution to your link-hoarding problems.

Making Your Github Access Token

Stash uses your github account to stash your encrypted data.
1.
Log into your Github account. If you don’t have one yet, sign up here… its free!
2.
Navigate to the “Settings” page by clicking on your profile icon in the top right of the page and then selecting “Settings.”
3.
Select “Developer settings” from the left side menu of the Settings page.
4.
Select “Personal access tokens” then “Token (classic)” from the options on the page.
5.
Click the “Generate new token (classic)” button.
6.
A form should appear that allows you to add a Note to your token.
7.
It’s very important that on the “Expiration” field, select “No expiration”.
8.
Then select which scopes you would like included in the token. Select the “gists” scope and click the “Generate token” button.
9.
Confirm your request by entering the password associated with your account.
10.
You should now have a token generated for you. Make sure to take note of this token then copy and paste it on the Stash settings dialog and click “Connect”.
🖖
To ensure that your Stash data is synced across all your browsers, make sure to use the same Github token on every browser. This will allow you to access your favorite links on any device, no matter what account you are using.

FAQ

Is Stash a full featured bookmarking, pinning, syncing solution that will solve all of my browser tab problems?
Probably not, although in my experience using Stash, it came in very handy many times. It just gives you what you need and nothing more. If you are looking for a full featured solution there are plenty of awesome ones out there like WebCull, FavBox, or Pocket. But if you want a tiny extension that does its job with a smile, Stash is your guy. Or girl. Or non-binary pal. We don't judge.
So whats the difference with just pinning my tabs?
Well Im glad you ask. Looking at it at first, nothing really except for one thing and that is that all the links you stash gets sync no matter what account you are using. As long as you are using the same Github token your favorite links comes along with you.
Does this replace my already installed bookmarking extension?
Of course it doesn't have to replace your current bookmarking extension! It can be a loyal companion, like a trusty sidekick to your bookmarking superhero. Stash is so simple that you could complement any bookmarking extension you already have with it. So go ahead and let Stash be the Robin to your Batman, the Samwise to your Frodo, the... you get the idea.
Why use Github?
Why use Github, you ask? Well, it's like that one friend you always call when you need help moving. They may not be perfect, but they're reliable, they get the job done, and they won't charge you an arm and a leg. Plus, they're always down for a good API party. And best of all, they're free!
Is it secure?
Yes, Your data is encrypted and can only be decrypted with your Github Access Token.
I’m not a programmer and don’t really have a Github account. How do I make one?
Signing up for a Github account is very quick and easy, plus its free. Just follow these steps and you should be good to go.
Can others read my Stash data?
Nope, your data is encrypted and stored in a private gist on your Github account. Only you can decode it with your Access Token.
What about Firefox and Safari?
Sorry, but I don't use Firefox and Safari very often anymore and can't commit my time to creating a version for them right now. Fortunately, there are some great alternatives available. If I have more time in the future, I will definitely consider creating versions for those browsers.
Is Stash free forever?
Yes. ✨
